Nai Dharti, an NGO registered u/s 21 of the Societies Registration Act 1860, was formed in 2005, by a team of Bankers, Teachers & Social Workers. At present, we have an 11-member Executive Committee and A 7-member Advisory Committee. Since its inception, this NGO is working towards the upliftment of women & children belonging to the lowest stratum of society, in and around Patna, the capital of Bihar. All our beneficiaries are poor women or deprived girls, mostly belonging to the Mahadalit Community. Although our thrust area is Education & Holistic Development of unprivileged girl children, including their vocational skill development (in-house), we are also working for economic empowerment of poor women through a Producer Trust with ourselves as settler.

We are running a formal residential school, viz. Sister Nivedita Balika Vidyalaya. The School is registered under RTE up to Std VIII and follows Bihar Board Curriculum. Students of Std IX & X are being taught in-house by our team of teachers, while deserving students upto Std XII are being provided shelter and online coaching at Nai Dharti. Five of our batches have already completed Matriculation from BBOSE and NIOS, three batches have completed Plus II from Bihar Board, while the first batch has completed Graduation with Honours in various subjects with First Class from prestigiousColleges of Patna. This year, we have obtained permission for our students to appear as private candidates from a nearby Government School for Matriculation Exams through proper Bihar Board.

The School has got its own building at Sarai in the rural outskirts of Patna. It has two 4-story buildings for School and Hostel with a Hostel capacity for 120 girls. Apart from these 120 students, 65day scholars from nearby areas, with similar economic backgrounds, are attending school, free of cost. We also have a skill development cum production centre on the same campus, housing one Sanitary Napkin production Unit, one Tailoring Unit, and one Food Processing Unit.

Our students have won the first prize in Inter School Painting Competition organized by St Xavier’s Alumni Association, Patna, for two consecutive years. They have also won first prize in a classical dance competition organized by the Youth & Cultural Wing of the State Government. In 2022. Every year, they are winning prizes in various Inter School Competitions organized by other agencies.

The chubby cheeks, sparkling eyes, and springy steps of our girls are a joy to behold. Their happy laughter ringing out in the campus playground and their melodious singing would have perished in the ruthless grinding mill of poverty and neglect, had they not come to us. Nai Dharti, our pride, is not merely an NGO. We are not out to change the world but we are committed to change the bleak today of those who come to us for a new tomorrow full of joy and hope. Maybe we are not able to provide the best quality of teaching, but we do find out and nurture hidden talents, and we definitely transform our girls into better human beings – a commodity, which, unfortunately, is becoming increasingly rarer in today’s society.
